Cool times-a-coming

Greetings!

I must start today’s writing with an apology. I know it’s been a while since the last newsletter, but by good golly, I didn’t realise just how long! It was late April when I last wrote to you and now we’re just days away from July! I am terribly sorry. It’s lucky Dayna returns next week to take back the baton. Oh how we’ve missed Dayna! Her creativity, her bright smile, her can do-will do (right now!) attitude. She’ll be returning to Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from July, looking after our communications, events, and many behind the scenes activities. Praise the good Lord.

Now, onto other cool things. I’m sure you’re all eager to know how our air-con fundraising efforts are going. Well, I am simply BLOWN AWAY! We’ve officially cracked the $10,000 mark! As at this morning, we’ve reached $11,445. Such amazing generousity from our small but mighty community. Thank you all so very much for getting behind this cause, donating your items for auction, and your cold, hard cash. A special mention to those who have pledged large sums, including Kevin & Susie, who graciously directed all gifts and funds from Amanda’s memorial service to this cause.

So what’s the plan from here? The Church Leadership Team are drawing up the budget for next financial year (2024/2025), and will be including provision for air-con installation in the hall and chapel. We estimate the total cost to be around $25,000 so any shortfall will come from the church’s investment account (subject to member approval of the budget at the next AGM). God willing, we install in Spring!

Oh how I look forward to morning teas in Summer! Gone are the days of cautiously accepting a hot flat white, knowing it’ll only increase the rate of sweat dripping from my brow and pooling at my pits. But of course, that’s not the only reason for our fund-raising. We have an ambitious dream to see our building transformed into a space where community members connect, grow, and share their talents for the good of the people. Concerts! Musicals! Pilates! Weddings! Yoga! Now, in EVERY season.

Quizmas in July

There’s much to look forward to before Summer rolls around. First up, Quizmas in July. Everyone who went along last year has been raving about it since. This year it’ll be on Friday the 26th of July at 6pm, and the cost per table is $210 (up to 8 people). Book by clicking this link, or get in touch with Dayna. You don’t want to miss it!

Busy Bee

Come one, come all, to the Dalkeith Road Busy Bee on Sunday 14th July at 12pm! There’ll be sanding, painting, dusting at height, cobweb removal, general tidy up and maybe even some garden work. Let’s get this place in tip top shape before the wedding we have booked in August!

Family Gathering

Our next family gathering is locked in for Sunday 11th August at 12pm. This is a time to share a meal and celebrate the good things God is doing at Dalkeith Road. The staff team will update everyone on how we’ve been spending our time and what we’re looking forward to in the months to come.

School of Music Showcase

Lastly, THIS Sunday after church, the students of Dalkeith Road School of Music will be performing items they’ve been learning over the past term. We would love to have members of our church there to encourage and support these brave and talented students! Show starts at 2.30pm in the hall and tickets are $5 (available for purchase at the door).

Well that's all I have for you today and evermore! This is my last newsletter as Dayna returns to her writeful ;) spot on the keyboard. I have thoroughly enjoyed keeping you updated and I look forward to serving you back in my (now less busy!) role of Operations Manager.

See you Sunday!

Simmone, Operations Manager
